Rockstar hasn't dropped any paid download content for GTA5 in more than a year, though they've added several free updates with some exciting new features. They frequently promote their virtual currency (which can be purchased with real money), which is a bit disappointing for me. I doubt GTA5 will have dedicated servers; it seems they didn't on consoles, so you'll need to create your own session and depend heavily on your NAT settings to connect with others.
It already supports choosing a solo session or crew/friends only. GTAO receives regular updates, which makes it hard to understand why you'd prefer leaving the current servers. Still, I've never liked altering the original code unless it's needed to resolve issues.
