I experienced GPU failure, so I switched to using an integrated graphics card. Initially, I was seeing around 51 frames per second in Arkham City at 720p low resolution, but there was noticeable stuttering between 20 and 30 FPS. To test the 'cinematic' experience, I limited the frame rate to 24. It stopped stuttering completely, and it actually ran smoothly—especially with motion blur enabled. At first, playing at 24fps made me feel a bit dizzy, but after a few minutes my brain adapted, and I was comfortable enjoying it at a cinematic setting.

It makes sense given what I've heard. As a non-expert, I know humans can't really detect frames above 24 per second. The other reason it works well is that it doesn't require excessive power from the GPU or CPU, which means fewer interruptions and a smoother experience.

It’s probably because averaging at 51 FPS helps smooth out the motion blur. If you’re using a lower frame rate, the effect becomes more noticeable.

In certain games 24 frames per second can work. But avoid 24fps for first-person shooters or racing titles.

I enjoyed playing Geometry Dash on my iPhone 4 around 30 frames per second. It was manageable, though it can be frustrating and leaves you with the impression of missing something important.

I really don’t mind 20 or 30, as long as it stays consistent without pausing.
