I discovered my new i7 2600 has eight threads, yet my PC claims otherwise. I checked MSCONFIG and unchecked the box, but nothing changed. Still seeing four threads listed. This isn’t ideal because I won’t get the full performance. What’s going wrong with my Dell Optiplex 990? I suspect the issue lies with my previous CPU that had only four threads.

Yes, reset the CMOS and attempt the test again.

Check the BIOS settings under "Performance," though it hasn't been updated in a while since I last worked on a 990. Keep exploring, you should locate it.

I located the configuration but after clicking it and restarting, it entered the BIOS then eventually powered down. What happened?!

It worked without any adjustments... What a surprise! [9:42 AM] And I managed to get all the threads running too.

It seems a few extra threads caused my games to perform worse…yes. All this effort felt wasted.
