You can transfer the game onto your flash drive and use it to play, even without a computer. The installation will happen automatically when you run it from the drive. Just make sure the CD is removed beforehand to avoid issues.

Skyrim on Steam is a paid title that needs to be activated through the platform. You won't require the physical disc.

You just need the key which should be in the box, if you just got a CD from a present and nothing else i afraid it useless.

It should include an activation code. If not, you’ll need a computer with an optical drive and you’ll have to copy the disc to the USB stick. Yes, that’s feasible.

Even if you can't play the game, you still need to provide a serial key and be active on Steam. Your friend found a CD at a second-hand shop but had to send it back because it was essentially an installation disc.
