Not long ago I was handling some cable organization, connecting the PSU and HDD cage to my fan and CPU RGB, both using Molex connectors. Suddenly my PC emitted smoke for just two seconds, but it stopped before the system fully shut down. As soon as I pressed the power button, everything from the fan to the RGB components appeared normal. Even Device Manager displayed no issues. I ran games and stress tests like Cinebench. It’s quite surprising there was no smell at all. Could you help me figure out what might be missing?

Inspect every connection, including the Molex ones. There could be damage. Dust inside a plug or a short to the casing might be the issue.

I suspect the Molex connector was loose, though I couldn’t find any signs of damage or odor. I connected my fan to a spare Molex connector, which is the only option left since the other one was securely fastened.

It might be dust or hair causing the problem, making it tough to identify. I’d keep an eye on it, but once there’s no smoke and everything’s working fine… fixing it becomes impossible. You should use it until you can’t anymore, whether it’s tomorrow or in ten years. Think of it like a car—if you can’t pinpoint the issue and the mechanic can’t help, just drive it until it fails completely.
