Internet connection loss is occurring every hour due to a DNS timeout error. The message indicates name resolution for dns.msftncsi.com failed after no DNS servers responded. This began after setting up a PFSSL firewall and switching to static IP and DNS servers. Windows server currently uses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS, which matches the issue. PFSENSE DNS resolver is enabled. Someone has suggestions?

It runs continuously every hour since the DHCP handler’s lease period is configured to verify each device’s lease hourly, either renewing it or returning the IP to the pool. The issue seems tied to this frequent checking. Regarding the error, static DNS works, but a static public IP might be causing the problem.

Your router already manages DNS settings, so why switch to using it as the DNS server for your computer?

The DNS adjustments didn't take effect due to high traffic, and the issue persists intermittently. This pattern suggests a possible conflict or timing problem with the server and DNS resolution.

I've improved it by 50%, so are you sure you need to continue. What's the lease duration for your nodes in the network—every hour or every two hours?

It seems like you're questioning the situation again. The DNS issue still feels unusual. Adding an IP address reservation based on your MAC address might help avoid the lease expiration. Let me know if you'd like advice on that. Thanks!

It should skip the DHCP lease periods when you give static IPs to specific MAC addresses. For a steadier link with devices that aren’t essential, you can extend that duration or configure it not to expire at all based on your router settings.
