It's been a while since I've made a new PC setup.
It's been a while since I've made a new PC setup.
The laptop's memory won't be sufficient. Grandpa Jim is being updated to 2023, and we're using him in a modified gaming setup.
I believe the OP isn't fully understanding that the SODIMM memory in a laptop differs from standard DIMM on a desktop and isn't compatible.
Also, the i7 seems unnecessary compared to the i5-13600K, which offers integrated graphics for troubleshooting, is overclockable (the F variant isn't), and is more affordable—plus it only has two fewer cores.
I think the OP should confirm whether they want a "NO" in all three points mentioned.
After that, we should assume they already have a case, power supply, cooler, and fans since those weren't listed as missing needs.
And LT is completely unrelated to any of these items. Under $900! I rely solely on the information he provides about their intended use.

If you choose this path, opt for the 5600. It runs cooler than the older 5600X and is more affordable. Use the savings to upgrade your setup.
You might recommend an older CPU that runs hotter and costs more because it offers better performance or reliability for specific tasks, even though it consumes more power and may be pricier.
The processor might be too powerful for what he mentioned, just like the graphics card and 32GB of RAM. However, it will fully utilize what he said and 1080p will run all games available today at that resolution with reasonable settings. It's not the latest titles maxed out, but still offers a solid setting around 60 FPS with mid-range options. LT's performance can't match a PC for the price paid. That's my final comment here unless someone asks a specific question.
WOW! A lot of reply's. I have had nothing but trouble with ASUS, that is the meaning of that comment. Is there anything I can salvage from the laptops? They all have 1 tb hard drives, 6 drives in a raid array??? My monitor is G-sync capable. Are there any regular desktop cases, that are good., I am not sure I want another mini-tower. I am currently running a "ROG zephyrus", from ASUS, that has fans that make strange noises when I start it up in the morning, hence the quest for a new PC. I was thinking about replaceing the fans, but ASUS support said they do not sell parts, and it could take 15 days to get it repaired. At least if I build it myself, I can repair it. SWMBO and I usually get new laptops about the same time. Just after the warrenty expires. I have 2 ASUS, 2 MSI, and 2 Alienware, stacked up on my bookshelf, in various states of functioning.
It looks like Why Me, seems to be along the lines of what I want. I kinda like Gigabyte MB's, for old times sake, is there an equivalent? Are laptop SSD's useable in a PC? Is ABIT still in business? I did a lot of PC's with their MBs. Thanks for all the information, I will probably be back, with , more stupid questions, Thanks!
Abit has been inactive for quite some time, likely more than ten years. MSI offers solid boards these days, and your laptop SSD should function properly. The previous build could have been a bit excessive. Here’s a more relaxed configuration, not as intense.
