I’m hoping this tale will bring a smile to some eyes. I’d love to hear any stories you’ve had about working around the PC or using the controller while playing. I’ve been experimenting with controllers lately—my Xbox 360 one stopped working during a Dark Souls session, so I upgraded to a new Xbox One model. Recently I’ve been enjoying Witcher 3, and I found the PC controls a bit awkward. I bought a fresh controller yesterday, and it’s been a big improvement.

I’ve played games that don’t support quick saves or are platform-based, which really tests this feature. Now, with quick saves, the controller feels frustrating. Pressing it every few minutes just doesn’t cut it anymore. My friend noticed me fumbling with the controller and joked, “Couldn’t resist?” He’s a passionate gamer, so I figured it was time to fix things.

After some trial and error—trying XPadder to rewire or automate buttons—I finally found a way. I rebinded the accelerator to F5, used Brake for inventory, and grabbed the character sheet without missing a beat. My room mate came in, saw me playing Witcher 3 with the new setup, and laughed when he noticed my foot moving. He said, “See a little compromise and you’re having fun,” which made me smile. Then he realized I was still using the keyboard, and I burst out laughing. He left, shaking his head and calling me a “PC gamer.”

I stayed committed to XPadder for the change it brought, and now I’m enjoying the game without the frustration. It’s been a rewarding experience—getting my cake and eating it too!
