CPU model: intel i7 2600 3.4 GHz
Clock speed drops during gameplay (3400–1600 MHz)
Peak temperature recorded at 83°C
Are you running an MSI motherboard? Just out of curiosity, there could be many reasons behind it—but unless you're working on a 3D project, it might relate to your core or the board itself. It's tough to pinpoint right now. Edited February 28, 2021 by Chris Greene Added more information about potential causes.

The i7-2600 runs at a starting frequency of 3400 MHz and should maintain that during gameplay. Consider using ThrottleStop for optimization. Review the Log File settings and log your CPU performance while playing games. Share the records via a post or paste them here. If you're using an MSI board, clearing the BD PROCHOT setting might improve speed. Provide many screenshots for assistance with this throttling issue. Likely a desktop setup.
I recommended enabling the Log File function during ThrottleStop execution. It records frequent reasons for CPU throttling and offers ways to fix these issues. Including a few images of ThrottleStop while your CPU throttles at 1600 MHz would be useful. The primary reason for such intense throttling can be resolved by removing the BD PROCHOT option in ThrottleStop. Your CPU stays below Intel’s 100°C safety limit, so it shouldn’t be throttling to that frequency.
