I was playing Factorio when my system ran out of RAM (32 GB). I bought two kits of G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2×16. After swapping the RAM, the computer wouldn’t boot at all. I tested each pair separately and eventually found a solution by mixing two new units with two old ones. It turned out the RAM was too wide to fit properly, causing pins to break contact. Using a micrometer, I measured my old RAM (G.Skill Ripjaws) at 0.280" (7.1mm), the new model at 0.348" (9.0mm) and 0.340" (8.5mm). Now I have 48GB of RAM and a spare 32GB kit. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Vision D, listed among their supported boards. I wanted to share this issue so others could check if they faced the same problem.
