I’m thinking about upgrading or replacing my PC. It’s mainly used for gaming at 2560x1440 resolution. I’ve already changed the graphics card twice before, and this time I intend to switch the CPU (Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz) because it’s quite old. I’ll stick with my current GPU (GeForce RTX 2080) since newer models are too expensive and still perform well.
It would be nice if you could confirm whether this configuration makes sense.
Here are some options I’m considering:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Box AM5 (4,2GHz) – looks like a solid gaming CPU compared to the one I looked at earlier (13700k).
- ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI Mainboard AMD AM5 – a premium motherboard with fast connections and multiple M.2 slots.
- Noctua NH-D15 – a reliable CPU cooler, tested for durability.
- Kingston Technology FURY Beast Speichermodul 64 GB 2 x 32 GB DDR5 5600 MHz – I’m not sure about it, but I need at least 64 GB of RAM.
- Dark Base Pro 901 (schwarz) – my old case still works, but I wanted to upgrade for long-term use and future GPU upgrades.
- Be quiet Straight Power 11 850W 80+ Platinum BN – I’ll keep it as is since the old PC only needs minor repairs.

For the motherboard, unless you're specifically targeting the X670E-F Gaming WiFi, the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk provides six SATA headers, 2.5G Ethernet, WiFi 6E, and a BIOS flash button for just 220 dollars. For RAM, opt for another setup. The G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo offers minimal latency, high speeds, and is AMD Expo certified for optimal performance and compatibility. Storage-wise, the Samsung 980 Pro stands out in my view. It's only slightly pricier than the 970 Evo, yet offers a clear performance advantage.
