Hey, I'm trying to stop my laptop's graphics card from getting too hot because of thermal throttling. It starts at 65 degrees Celsius which is way too low. I want to bump the limit up to about 75 or 80 degrees just a little bit. But in Afterburner, that temperature limit option is turned off and I can't find another place to change it. The same feature works fine in ASUS GPU Tweak II though. It seems like this isn't a hardware problem but maybe a software setting I'm missing. For now I'll keep using Afterburner mostly, even if it's not perfect there too. If you have worries about my laptop getting damaged, I already lowered the CPU voltage and turned down its turbo clock because that was probably causing most of the heat. I also want to try lowering the GPU voltage a bit but can't figure out how to do it in Afterburner. YouTweak does let me change the voltage though, strangely it only lets you add more volts instead of taking them away...? Any tips would be great thanks!

Probably not a real concern for you but your CPU and GPU have a pretty good chance of having separate heat management and your CPU temps are not going to carry much relevance for your GPU temps. So your CPU under volt won't mean anything on your GPU. Looking around a bit it seems that this is a relatively common issue with afterburner. The suggestions I came up with are upgrade to the beta, or use GPU Tweak.

I don't know if it will work or even if it runs on your computer. But I've heard about a site called ThrottleStop where they try things just like this.

Yeah, I'm using TS to tweak my CPU, but sadly there are no options for my discrete GPU! 🙁 As far as I know, they have separate fans but share heat pipes; that's a bad but common design. When I stress test the CPU after undervolting so it stays stable, the GPU temperature goes up by about 20 degrees or near its default throttle temp, even though there is no load on it. I'll check out the beta for Afterburner. Keeping GPU Tweak as an option of last resort is super buggy.

Yeah, free overclocking programs from vendors are all over the place and sometimes don't work. Over time I learned that even putting them on my builds isn't always safe, especially if they are ASUS products. Sorry about your heat-pipe setup; the best advice is just to keep it very clean with canned air. Any dust or lint buildup will cause issues, but it gets really bad when you need all the coolers and fans working perfectly for normal use. Best of luck!
