It requires many individuals to agree they won’t purchase games on Linux, otherwise the investment loses its value. Compatibility layers such as dxvk can slow things down because they enable running Windows titles on Linux; developers would prefer native ports for Windows since Linux users typically rely on alternatives like Wine or dual boot. Companies must encourage developers to support platforms—like Sony doing for PlayStation—to make sense of the situation. Currently, Valve is the only entity positioned to act, either by providing cost-effective incentives for a native Linux release or by using their market influence to push developers toward compliance (though this could risk pushing them toward other platforms).

Certain games prohibit the use of dxvk because anti-cheat software flags it as a false positive.

When purchasing a game and facing a ban, the developer retains your payment.

I’d say just a tenth would be plenty. Apple released some games for a short time, but they quickly disappeared and didn’t capture much attention. At less than ten percent of the market, Steam’s strength lies in knowing your audience—users there are more likely to play games directly rather than just mobile ports or web versions. With Apple, only about ten percent of users might think about playing beyond basic apps. On the other hand, Microsoft’s move to stop kernel-level anti-cheats could bring them back closer to Linux users, who don’t interact with the kernel and thus face fewer restrictions.

It’s not a false alarm. The system identified a changed DX library, which is frequently used for game access. Any adjustment to the DX Runtime would essentially be viewed as a modification since it impacts the game directly. DXVK and WINE could also be altered to deliver cheats more easily, making things simpler for those creating hacks. No matter your goals, an AntiCheat can’t explain why the runtime differs—it simply recognizes the change and flags it as suspicious. They might be able to target specific versions of dxvk, limiting flexibility. This situation echoes targeting a particular Proton build, highlighting distrust in the overall setup. There’s no barrier preventing advanced kernel-level AntiCheat on Linux; in fact, adding missing components could streamline the process. It reflects the core principles of Linux distributions and user expectations. The real dilemma is choosing between a functional client-side AntiCheat or maintaining full control over your experience.

Being harsh is common among those who cheat just to hurt others for fun. It’s similar to how some online users push vulnerable groups to suffer.

For the majority of those who resist change, it simply won't occur. They seek a level of authority that Linux doesn't provide from its core design. This isn't necessarily negative; lacking access to something as strict as Riot Vanguard can be preferable to facing severe security risks. The decisions you make about your computer—whether hardware, OS, or software—always involve compromise. That varies from person to person. I wouldn’t play league anymore, but the benefits Linux offers—greater control, no ads, a nicer interface—make the trade-offs worthwhile. I used to hate PUBG, but switching to Linux would have been a better choice for me. Most folks won't see it that way, and that's okay. Everyone has different priorities. It would help if governments pushed Microsoft to enhance Windows experiences honestly.

The only realistic path for anti-cheat to work meaningfully is if they gain access to the kernel—something we all understand won’t happen. Therefore, if players wish to enjoy these games without using Windows, the straightforward answer is to purchase a console.
