The computer has been slowing down and shutting down by itself recently. I attempted various troubleshooting steps found online, but they didn't resolve the issue. I checked the temperatures and overheating isn’t the cause; I disconnected all peripherals, reconnected connectors and RAM, and updated the CMOS. It’s an older build designed for basic internet browsing using an i5 3rd or 4th generation processor, 8GB RAM, and a 1TB HDD running Windows 10. Since it’s cracked, no updates were applied. Are there any other steps you could try before giving up?

Probably a faulty power supply unit or old capacitors on the motherboard, especially if it uses older components instead of modern ones.

It turns out the memory module was faulty. I borrowed a memory stick from a friend and attempted to restart it again, but so far everything is working fine.

It's strange when poor memory causes the PC to shut down, it often crashes, possibly showing a black screen while still running.
