When connecting your external drive, it prompts for network details. It’s unclear whether it needs your own login info or your dad’s laptop credentials. You should confirm what’s required before entering any information.

Refers to the device name you use for your computer, whether it's your dad's laptop or the one connected via the drive.

Your account identifier. However, this doesn't match the Windows registration exactly, so navigate to the place I mentioned and search for your account name. Then provide the username you entered and type the password.

When connecting to your father's Windows device, you must use his Microsoft account and password, assuming he's logged in through that method.

What if he isn't using that method at all? He just powers on without entering any login details.

I turned off the password lock on the advanced sharing area. I’ll keep things safe using group access instead.

I thought I finished, but it looks like I'm still working through it. Now I'm attempting to add my dad's laptop as a user so he can reach my WindowsImageBackup folder on the networked external drive. However, when I enter his computer name, it doesn't locate it, even though it has access to the drive or volume.
