I was curious about how the CPU functions. It has 12 cores, specifically a 6x2 configuration. My concern is whether it operates at 6 cores during gaming or if it activates additional cores when needed, which might introduce slight delays due to slower communication between those pairs.

The good news is that most modern games are built to take advantage of multi-core systems. Unfortunately, many popular titles don’t reach that level—they usually cap at 2, 4, or 6 cores because optimization isn’t a priority for many companies (like EA or Rockstar).

The 6c+6c design of the 7900X often requires using both CCDs in many games, which limits its performance. The 7900X3D struggles similarly, losing the advantages of 3D v-cache right from the start. Even the 7950X3D suffers, with jumps instantly negating caching gains. Microstuttering happens frequently, causing frame latency spikes when data leaks to another CCD. Solutions include disabling the second CCD or adjusting Processor Affinity settings. In short, R9 CPUs aren't ideal for gaming beyond the Ryzen 3000 line—stick with single-CCD CPUs.

The extra performance comes from higher clock speeds. The 5900X handles 5150 operations per second on multiple cores, with 5GHz across several cores, and remains near that speed for most workloads. This isn't built-in.
