It requires excessive voltage and fails otherwise
There are some persistent issues with this CPU. It consistently scores low on ASUS ROG z790 Hero MB, and I can’t seem to get it to run smoothly. Previously, I could push it to 2 cores at 6GHz using turboboost. The cooling setup worked fine, but now BSODs appear frequently. After resetting BIOS settings, it boots at 5.5GHz with all cores, yet crashes randomly when the workload increases. To keep things stable, I had to raise the turbo boost voltage to 1.55V, and other options kept auto-boosting. The Vcore stayed at auto mode without any adjustment. The VID voltage is now around 1.58–1.60V, which is below the safe threshold for stability. I’m forced to use much higher voltages than what the V/F curve suggests, making cooling harder—especially since 1.6V isn’t reliable for sustained overclocking or heavy multi-core loads. This could be causing thermal throttling even at temperatures under 100°C. The limit is set at 105°C, and I’ve disabled frequency throttling, but the system still struggles. Is this a problem with the chip itself? Could an RMA help? Any suggestions for BIOS tweaks to fix this?
