I've currently got The Bureau: XCOM Declassified running and I want to play the new Starcraft 2 Nova missions that were just released today. But since XCOM doesn't let me save any time I want to I'm concerned I'll lose a little progress if I just close it. So I'm wondering if I'll run into any issues leaving XCOM running while play Starcraft 2? In terms of my GPU not having enough resources for Starcraft 2 with XCOM in the background or a similar issue with my CPU. Or something else. Sorry if this is a dumb question to ask but I've never had 2 games running at the same time so I figured why not ask about it. If this does in fact qualify as a non-techie question feel free to quote it in the topic for that stuff. lol
As long as your system has enough CPU, GPU, and RAM, there should be no problems. I used to play World of Warcraft on a dual-boot setup without any issues.
Your resources will be divided to potentially affect your performance in some games. Adjusting the priorities of the two programs might be beneficial.
I tested the scenario and it turned out to be Heaven with F1 2013. The other game runs smoothly with minimal strain (it would drop to around 15 FPS). Since both games are relatively light on resources and don’t rely heavily on real-time performance, you should be okay.
It should work well with a 6700k, 16GB RAM, and 1070 GPU. No need to worry about managing tasks.
You're asking about how background processes affect performance. The game you're not playing uses minimal resources, while the one you're running gets most of them. You mentioned XCOM and wondered if it's light enough. Regarding real-time processing, it means the game responds instantly to your actions without lag. Starcraft 2 is an example of a game that runs smoothly with moderate system load.
