I've been testing Windows 10 on a spare machine. Being aware of its data collection habits, I attempted to restrict access. It looks like my efforts were too thorough—I can't browse the network. Using "\\NAS" (without quotes) results in a clear failure (error 0x80070035: network path missing). Trying with the NAS's IP address also fails, though it takes a bit longer. From a CMD window, I can ping by IP and receive a response, but not by name. I’m able to surf the web normally. I'm on the same local network and it's private, not public (my other devices are set that way). I have a large HOSTS file, could that be the problem? Running Windows 10 Enterprise in 30-day evaluation mode I've tried these links:
- https://thegeekpage.com/fix-windows-10-e...text=Error code 0x80070035 The network path was not found. There are many reasons causing, shorter one and try again. No luck. Any suggestions?
At a glance, did you turn on or turn off Network Discovery? It plays a key role in letting Windows connect with other devices on your local network.
It might be in that area. I’m checking with O&OShutUp10 and Spybot Anti-beach; they’re likely the cause. I’ll disable them soon to test if it fixes the problem. Interestingly, these tools worked well on other Windows 10 setups without issues, so I’m not sure they’re responsible, but I’ll give it another try.
I typically turn it on via the Network settings in the Control Panel. A window pops up with a navigation bar.
Yeah, that was on, and reverting my O&OShutup10 didn't fix it. nor did disabling the HOSTS file. ...vexing
That's frustrating. The network directory is missing, and I'm having trouble reaching it through IP or hostname in Windows Explorer. It's really difficult. I might have to reset it from a distance.
