I received a new CPU but it doesn’t boot any operating system. On Windows, I see a blue screen, while Linux triggers a kernel panic. I’m moving up from a 5800X and have tested two different boards: an Asus X470 Prime Pro with the latest BIOS and a MSI B550 MPG Gpu. I’ve mixed and matched various components across all setups. The parts I used are listed below. CPU: 5800X, RAM: GSK Skill Trident Z RGB 4x8GB 3200, Corsair Vengeance LX 1X8GB @2133 Motherboards: Asus X470 Prime Pro with latest BIOS, MSI B550 MPG GPU: Gigabyte 3070, Asus ROG Strix RX 580 PSU: Evga G6 850W Cooler: Corsair H100i RGB Platinum Storage: Samsung 970 Evo 1TB, WD Blue 2TB M.2 SSD I can run Memtest and it passes with all 32GB RAM @3200Mhz. I’ve tried both Ubuntu Live USB and Windows 10/11 installers, but I encounter errors—both with and without storage attached.
I wasn't sure at first. It had bent pins, but I straightened them and assumed it was just a minor issue. I found a 2020 post about someone with the same problem claiming warranty service, but I can't get that help. It seems like it wasn't a major concern—I thought maybe something simple went wrong.
I've confirmed everything is correct. The CPU fits easily and all connections are present.
I experienced a comparable problem with an older i5 650 combo board plus CPU. The BIOS functioned properly, but switching to an OS frequently caused crashes. It seems the CPU's memory controller was faulty. Swapping it out for an i7 860 resolved the issue and everything is now working correctly. You might want to consider your CPU could be affected too—possibly a defective controller unable to manage more than the necessary memory for BIOS access or boot initiation.
