Hello, I have a problem on my PC for some time now. When I am doing some tasks on my PC (whether being browsing or heavy-duty tasks like video editing) my Windows freezes randomly. Sometimes it lasts 5 seconds, sometimes 10, 15, 20 but sometimes it goes up to a minute of freeze and I am unable to do anything while it's frozen. I can't open task manager or any other app so I am forced to just wait for it to unfreezes. Also, I sometimes get 4-6 freezes in 1-2 minute time span but other times I can be working for hour or two and it doesn't freeze, not even once. It usually happens when I am launching two browsers or have one open and click on the other one to launch it. It also happens frequently when I game so it takes away the joy of playing games. It also makes my life pretty frustrating when trying to get some work done. Whether it's editing some music video, or actually making music it is annoying not to be able to work smoothly. But also interesting fact is that while PC is frozen I am able to move my cursor but that's the only thing I can do, and it isn't really helpful because, as I said, I am unable to launch any app while PC is frozen. I really don't know is this Windows based or hardware based problem so any help regarding my problem would be really appreciated. Thank you for your help!
I checked CrystalDiskInfo and found these details: My main drive (SSD) shows health status as "Unknown". The 1TB HDD is marked "Caution" with only a yellow dot next to "Reallocated Sectors Count," while the rest appears blue. The third 500GB HDD reports "Good" health. Hard Disk Sentinel data indicates my main SSD (Kingston 480GB) has 100% performance, 85% health, and my secondary 1TB HDD is 100% with 95% health. LatencyMon is currently analyzing and will update once results are ready. No major issues appear, but I’m not sure what’s causing the concern.
The message from Sentinel highlights the drive and emphasizes the importance of the text description.
Main 480GB SSD: "Disk condition is ideal. No faulty or fragile areas detected. TRIM functionality is active for best performance. Health score comes from the SSD’s specific S.M.A.R.T. attribute(s): #231 SSD Wear Indicator – no required steps." Secondary 1TB HDD: "Four sectors on the disk failed. Their data has been transferred to a backup area. At present, replacing the disk isn’t feasible unless health declines more. Communication issues occurred 75 times. If the system crashes suddenly, reboot, or displays a blue screen, check data and cables—try different connectors if possible. For details: https://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_cas..._error.php Regularly review disk logs; any new issues will be recorded there." Third 500GB HDD: "Hard drive status is optimal. No bad sectors or transfer errors detected. No actions required."
Replace the SATA data cable connected to the 1TB storage device. This should halt the CRC errors reported by S.M.A.R.T., which Sentinel interprets as "issues during disk communication." Follow these steps safely: back up all data from the drive, perform a full format (or secure erase), avoid using critical files afterward, and keep an eye on spreading bad sectors. For Windows diagnostics, run the appropriate check.
I removed the secondary HDD because I noticed Windows crashing under certain conditions. Even with SSDs installed, it would crash when trying to access bad blocks. It might help to try using a different software that ignores those problematic blocks, or check if a defraggler is involved. At this stage, I’m not sure what’s causing the issue—my RAM speeds don’t match up between each other, and I don’t have any other tools to test.
Your old 1TB drive might be contributing to the freezing issue. Consider replacing it with a newer one and using a fresh SATA cable to see if that resolves the problem. Backing up data isn't necessary if you're not rushing through the process.
