It happens that the PC shuts down often while playing various games.
Hello everyone, I’m reaching out because I’m not usually part of these PC tech discussions, but I’m facing a serious problem and need your guidance. This is my third PC, which I assembled myself. The first two were flawless. Now the new one has stopped working after just a month. Here’s what I’ve set up:
- Motherboard: GIGABYTE B850M
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- Cooler: Deepcool AK400
- GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5070 WINDFORCE OC SFF 12G
- RAM: 2x16GB DDR5 6000 MHz Viper Elite 5 SSD
- PSU: MSI MAG A750GL
- Case: ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQML5A
I updated the BIOS, enabled resizable bar, adjusted RAM timings, and turned on Precision Boost. Windows 11 Pro was installed and fully updated. Drivers were manually added for the chipset, motherboard, GPU, and RAM—no use of Gigabyte Control Center to keep things clean.
I set up power plans for maximum performance and tweaked display settings: HDR enabled, brightness adjusted, and high performance mode selected.
The issue is that after a while, the PC freezes completely—even the mouse stops working. Inside the case everything runs fine: fans spin, RGBs light up, etc. The only solution I’ve tried is powering it off for about five seconds and then turning it back on.
I played three games recently:
- World of Warcraft
- Battlefield 6
- Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
In WoW, freezes happen almost every hour. In Battlefield 6 they’re rare but still occur. Once, a freeze happened not during gameplay but when launching the game on the loading screen. In KCD2 I experienced random crashes instead of freezes.
I don’t have much detail, but I’d appreciate any advice or logs you can share. I’m not very technical, but I’m willing to learn and follow your suggestions. If there’s a troubleshooting tool or specific info you need, let me know. Thanks in advance for your help—I really value your support!
Based on your concerns, it might be a RAM problem. Consider turning off EXPO RAM and testing speeds using the standard RAM speed or swapping in known working modules. If the issue persists after changing RAM types, we should examine additional components or apply further troubleshooting steps.
Good morning! That was helpful! I turned off the EXPO profile and there have been no freezes since. Thanks a lot! The default RAM settings are IMG_6322.heic, and what I attempted led to freezes: IMG_6321.heic. It seems my RAM might be faulty—should I consider replacing it? My setup is PATRIOT 32 GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000 MHz Viper Elite motherboard, GIGABYTE B850M, BIOS version f4d (latest). Even the title lists "6000 MHz" but it doesn’t support it.
I don't believe the limitation is due to insufficient RAM capacity; you might want to return the product for a replacement if you wish to use it at maximum performance. Be aware that enabling EXPO/XMP settings can cause some instability in certain devices, though high-speed RAM typically enhances AMD systems significantly. Either way, I'm happy your problem has been resolved!
Thanks for your help with the troubleshooting! The PC freezing twice at startup could stem from several factors. It might be related to the motherboard. If you have another system you can test, try installing benchmark software on an older machine to eliminate GPU issues. For CPU checks, OCCT or FurMark’s burner are good options. If you don’t have another setup, consider bringing it to a local store where you bought the components—they likely have spare systems for testing. Good luck! I’m sure it’s not the motherboard, but we’ve narrowed it down!
