I've noticed some unusual issues while gaming across different titles. After just a few minutes, the game crashes completely and requires a full system restart. Once I rebooted, the performance improved significantly. Previously, I experienced strange visual glitches—especially with no image on the screen—and these disappeared when I adjusted the clocking from 144Hz to 120Hz. Recently, black square artifacts appeared while watching YouTube. Could this indicate my graphics card is nearing the end of its life? My current setup includes an i5-8600K, 16GB GSKILL Ripjaws DDR4 RAM, MSI z390 gaming plus MB, and an 1660 Super GPU.
Hi, the temperature might be the issue. Verify the temps—it could mean your GPU is overheating after 5-10 minutes of use and starting to warp. If it gets too hot, replacing the GPU chip with a new compound might be necessary. Since restarting resolves the problem for a while, it’s possible that a small temperature increase affects performance and requires shutdown. You could also try updating the driver you’re using, especially if you haven’t tested other options.
The GPU temperatures reached 65 °C during crashes, then rose to 72 °C when the game ran smoothly. The CPU temperatures climbed to 80 °C. Turning off G-Sync didn’t stop the issues.
