Hey, this seems unusual. I've never encountered such a situation before. My system had an 8GB DDR4 RAM stick from Geil, model Evo Potenza, which displayed 8GB and performed well. After adding another 8GB from Crucial, Ballistix, I ended up with 16GB. However, I started experiencing memory issues where the expected 16GB was only showing around 10GB. The BIOS now treats the original Geil Evo Potenza stick as just 2GB, regardless of the slots. CPU-Z shows it as a 512MB module for that stick. I've tried resetting BIOS settings, re-flashing, re-seating RAM, changing slots, cleaning contacts, adjusting voltage, tweaking timing, and even ran Memtest86 successfully with the reported 2GB. The Crucial stick is functioning normally, BIOS recognizes it as 8GB, and it works without problems in any slot. It's possible something is partially failing, but I haven't seen a full failure yet. This is definitely not standard behavior.

Using two different RAM modules isn't advised because consistency is key. Even if a module displays 2GB, it won't accurately reflect the total capacity when paired with another identical stick.

It now appears as a 2GB DDR4 module, operating smoothly without any errors. I expected potential problems like timing or speed issues or even failure to boot, but never experienced that. With both modules plugged in, CPU-Z still lists them as Dual Channel, despite differing sizes. That’s quite unusual.

It's actually strange, I've tried it on another computer. Still nothing, so maybe get the same one again—it's not too expensive, and I'm running out of ideas Big Grin. And by the way, welcome to the forum!

It looks like I’ll need to return this GeIL stick since they claim a lifetime warranty and someone has already replied to my email. It’s pretty unusual for me to have RAM that lets me shrink its size, especially to a model that doesn’t exist in the current market.

Sure, I’d still choose two identical sticks since mismatched ones can lead to many issues.
