Issues with your Netgear router.
Hello! You're trying to adjust the DNS settings on your Netgear C6300 router/modem, but you're encountering an "Invalid IP address" error when using Norton's Connectsafe public DNS servers. The issue might be related to how the IP is configured or whether the server is responding correctly. Have you checked if the IP addresses are correct and consistent across all devices? Also, ensure the firmware version is up to date (V2.01.26). If the problem persists, try resetting the router or contacting Netgear support for further assistance.
Notice the label indicating Internet IP Address? You must choose to get it dynamically from your ISP. That’s why it’s so annoying.
I configured the network to use dynamic IP and then selected Google's DNS servers. After submitting the change, the interface updated automatically without any manual input. Despite this, the system still reported an invalid IP error. I checked the router settings and advanced options, but the default behavior remained unchanged. I also tried accessing the DNS section directly and entered the correct addresses, yet the issue persisted. It seems the problem might be with the ISP's DNS servers or a temporary configuration glitch. I’m considering reaching out to Comcast for further assistance.
Well Comcast assigns a dynamic IP address. If you're connected via their modem, that's the issue. As someone using a separate modem and router, I haven't relied on Comcast's DNS servers in over four years. From the picture you mentioned, you should be able to switch to a dynamic IP and select those DNS servers, even with the dynamic assignment. If you can't do that, it might be best to purchase your own modem. Comcast doesn't support changing DNS settings; they'd encourage using their own services.
I own a Netgear C6300 router that works with Comcast. It seems something might be going wrong. I should probably contact Netgear for help. After resetting it, it keeps acting strangely. I’m wondering if I can reinstall the firmware or if there’s another way to fix it. This router is great—worth the $150 investment. I don’t want to replace it or go rent one. It’s possible Comcast is blocking a server change. It would be strange since it worked perfectly before.
Comcast isn't restricting anything. For customer-owned gear they have minimal influence. They can install firmware and config files anytime, but they lack access to remote network settings. This might point to a firmware issue, though modem/router pairs should only be updated via the ISP. I don’t think customers should attempt updates themselves. Having two devices is preferable to one AIO unit. I’ve relied on Google’s DNS servers without any problems from Comcast. I always used a separate modem and router. But I’ll say this—if it isn’t their own modem, they’ll just suggest renting one of theirs.
