Hi all,
I recently got a new laptop with the following specifications: Intel® Core™ i5-9300H processor, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD storage, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card.
When trying to play Witcher 3, the performance is very choppy—FPS stays around 35 at 1080p regardless of settings or whether I enable hair effects. It doesn’t improve even when adjusting to ultra mode or changing other options.

I’ve updated both Nvidia and Intel drivers, set the game to always use GTX1650, experimented with full screen, borderless windowed, V-sync off, and the in-game FPS limiter. Nothing seems to affect the frame rate. The game remains stuck between 30-40 FPS, even during cutscenes or when idle.

I’ve turned off overlays such as the Windows Game Bar and GeForce Experience, launching the game directly from the executable instead of through GOG or GeForce.

I’m running out of ideas. The game works perfectly on low settings on my GTX760 desktop. It’s puzzling why switching from low to ultra with maximum hair has no impact on FPS—actually, it runs smoother and looks better, which is unexpected.

<Mod Edit>
stuttering frame rate.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

For those who have encountered problems with this laptop or ASUS devices, it appears the recent BIOS update has caused performance issues. Turning off certain services fixes the issue. Refer to the screenshot for details.

Are there any changes in CPU temperature while playing? Also, is RAM usage normal?

I currently don’t have a temperature above 60 degrees, yet usage spikes between 50-100% every few seconds. RAM usage remains under 6800mb. The CPU problem might be the issue—uncertain what to do. It seems unlikely this machine could run the game smoothly at low settings with stable 60+ FPS.

What is the type of laptop model? Does it require a plug-in connection or can it run on battery?

Does it rely on the integrated graphics card rather than a dedicated one?

I directly accessed the Nvidia control panel and instructed it to utilize the Nvidia card while playing Witcher. Unfortunately, this change did not produce any effect.

This new laptop is still under test with a fresh game to evaluate its performance. I selected Heroes of the Storm because it installed quickly and wasn't too demanding. I'm only managing around 40 frames per second even on the simplest settings. It seems the system is acting unusually slow when a game is active.
