Issues with wireless connectivity
I purchased two distinct adapters, but neither functions properly. It's difficult to get them to work and shouting at them back and forth isn't helping. One was USB, which worked but the Wi-Fi speed was only around 100 kb/s, and the Bluetooth performance was similar. I switched to a PCI-e card with an Intel chipset, thinking it would be a reliable solution. I downloaded the drivers and expected better results, but it still didn't work—especially the Bluetooth. I've tried various fixes: different USB headers, another PCI-e slot, reinstalling drivers, and adjusting settings. A friend couldn't suggest anything, and my dad suggested it might be an issue with the OS or motherboard, which we both dismissed. I suspect the problem could be with the Bluetooth power cable, as I found a replacement on eBay, though it will take a month to arrive. I’m considering returning the PCI-e card for a refund, but it’s frustrating that both adapters are failing.
A defective USB 2 header cable doesn't prevent the WiFi card from working. It's only required for Bluetooth. Make/model? What about the make/model of the wireless router, including WiFi settings?
I can verify that Bluetooth and Windows 10 generally struggle in most situations. This suggests the operating system might be the issue. It could also stem from a driver problem. Alternatively, Windows itself may be outdated. I recommend visiting Intel's site to locate the most recent drivers—sometimes an updated one resolves the problem. An outdated driver can often be the cause.
Update on this discussion. Yesterday after using it, I and my friend noticed more issues and concluded it wasn't a driver problem but hardware-related. I ordered a higher-quality card from Gigabyte, expecting a genuine brand to help. It should arrive within a week. After talking with my dad and friend, I decided that if this card fails again, I’d need to address my OS or motherboard. I learned the card requires extra power from an internal USB cable, which makes the motherboard a less likely suspect. For the final attempt, I tried both old and new drivers from various manufacturers, including Intel. I’m planning to stop using this card unless it works, and I’ll return the old one if it does. The new model offers Bluetooth 5.2, while my current one has Bluetooth 5.1, and it supports Wi-Fi 6e instead of Wi-Fi 6. Upgrading my Wi-Fi would make it even better. Sorry for any confusion—I tried to explain everything clearly.
I recall WiFi 5 was when the chips overheated a lot. That might explain the problem.
As mentioned before, Bluetooth and Windows 10 aren't great. They might get better with Windows 11, but it's not clear if the problem is specific to Windows 10. I'm sure it could be related to Windows 10 itself. I don't think my Bluetooth adapter is the issue—my old gaming rig didn’t have WiFi or Bluetooth, so I used a cheap dongle from Amazon. It worked fine then. With Windows 10, the performance dropped a bit. When I built my new rig, it came with an M.2 adapter for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. I still had trouble with my Bluetooth headset, and many people online suggested Windows might be the cause.
I’m still planning to attempt this new option, which is reassuring.
