I've set up Windows 11 in dual boot on several machines, but it often freezes and crashes games. I don’t have any logs explaining why. The affected systems include: i7 960 with GTX 1080Ti and 10GB DDR3; Core 2 Duo E8400 with GTX 750Ti and 8GB DDR3; HP ProBook 450 G3; and Athlon x4 870k with GTX970 and 8GB DDR3. I installed Final Fantasy X Remastered and Sonic Adventure 2 to test common titles. Anyone know what might be causing this issue? Is there a known Windows 11 feature linked to it that can be turned off? I searched online but didn’t find any useful information. Any suggestions on where to look next?

You aim to execute 11 on these outdated systems because you understand the requirements fully.

It wouldn’t make sense to give up trying, would it? People usually welcome help with tech issues online.

My setup, similar to yours (Core i7 930, 6GB RAM, GeForce 680, SSD), faces significant challenges with Microsoft support for Windows 11. We encounter issues like data loss, crashes, BSODs, update failures, and more. Switching to Windows 11 has proven problematic for me, especially since I don’t rely on it professionally. My system runs Windows 11 Insider Builds from the Dev channel, and while recovery is possible, the experience remains unstable. My work PC still uses Windows 10, which remains stable. Upgrading eventually, but I prefer maintaining Windows 10 for reliability. The Core i7 900 series struggles with VBS performance, making it difficult to run WSL or WSA without compromising speed. Overall, modern support seems to favor newer systems, and I’d advise sticking with what works best for my needs.

As discussed in my earlier message, I’m using dual boot with Windows 11 and 10. I didn’t immediately switch to 11, so I kept 10 on another drive for better compatibility. My goal is just to get things running where I can. So far, outside of gaming, I haven’t noticed any performance drops or crashes. The only issues are with games freezing and crashing. It seems the games run more smoothly in windowed mode. In my machine’s System Information, VBS shows it’s not enabled, which is interesting. I saw someone else on another forum who had similar problems and fixed them by changing the lockscreen executable to work with integrated graphics. For me, it looks like only the E8400 model has built-in graphics (besides a laptop without a dedicated GPU). I plan to test this tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.
