My GTX 760 arrived ready-to-use and unfortunately comes with a very basic cooler. Playing CS:GO without vsync is tough for me since my GPU temperature quickly reaches around 85°C, making it sound like a leafblower near my desk in just a short time. I still use vsync regularly, but it seems to introduce noticeable lag in the game. Sometimes frames drop randomly to 30 FPS, causing choppy play for a few seconds—this happens occasionally, sometimes not at all. It’s really frustrating. I suspect the issue isn’t with the card itself, as it handled frame rate limits without problems, but rather something else affecting performance when vsync is active. What might be causing this and how can I fix it?

Vsync relies on the specific game you're playing. Certain titles only maintain 30-60 frames per second, which means if your FPS falls under 60, you'll be stuck at 30. It can also lead to choppy performance in many games, especially when your frame rate drops or fluctuates. A small input delay may occur, but it's usually minimal. How do your FPS numbers look?

It doesn't appear to be just toggling between 30 and 60. It tends to stay at 60 most of the time, though you notice it dropping to around 56 and then rising back up gradually, appearing in the 40s as well. If you meant your FPS without VSync, I'd expect about an average of 180 in CS.

Sure, I can look into that. Would you like me to check for FPS limits in the Nvidia drivers?

Set the game's frame rate to a maximum of 160 or as desired. fps_max **160**

Would that appear in the console? If yes, how would you reach it? You're just starting out, so let me guide you through it!

Type "yes" to open the console, navigate to game settings, and turn on developer console. For any CSGO questions, feel free to ask.
