Issues with USB connections, sudden power spikes, and devices failing to appear.
Hey, over the last couple of days I've faced some problems getting my iPhone (and sometimes the S20+) connected to my PC. iTunes and Windows Explorer don't always pick it up, and the USB hotspot seems to work sporadically—sometimes for a few seconds, then both devices disconnect completely. Some ports aren't charging my phones at all, and after restarting the computer they function again, but other ports that worked before stop working now. I've used various cables (all MFi), even replaced one, but nothing helps. I reinstalled Windows twice, bought a new motherboard, updated the BIOS on both units, yet the issue persists. The ports work fine for other devices like microSD cards and keyboards. Recently I experienced a power surge error in Windows, which forced me to disconnect my mouse before it could start up again. It seems the problem isn't with other computers—my iPhone appears in iTunes on both a secondary desktop and a laptop, and the hotspot operates normally. I'm pretty sure the issue lies with the phone or the cables. If you need more details, just let me know—I'm happy to help. Thanks!
It might be connected to your power supply unit. Have you considered swapping it out?
It could be possible, but check that the CPU, RAM, cables, and other components are properly connected. Sometimes bent CPU pins lead to strange problems like this. Are all USB ports affected?
They are safe because I had to start over using the updated device. All ports work fine.
I suggest considering a fresh power supply. Your current one seems off the updated list (not the old forum version), which might be the cause of problems. Have your drivers installed and are they current? Chipset drivers could assist if they weren’t applied. If you choose to swap it out, the Evga 750 G6 is a solid option.
Thank you for the suggestion. I dedicated the entire day to confirming all drivers were current, I’ll review those drivers you referenced. I’ll simply return the new motherboard and test it with a fresh PSU, thanks. I’m happy to hear more ideas!
This alert usually comes from a brief circuit rather than the power source. If a connection between a voltage supply and ground exists on the motherboard—especially if a USB port is involved causing a spike—the system triggers this warning. The problem often appears in one or more USB ports, suggesting a possible internal short across the board. It might be due to dust buildup or faulty contact points.
I believe we eliminated the motherboard issue because I used a brand new one, right?
