Issues with underclocking this model.
I received an Alienware R12 Desktop PC from my older sibling, which features an i9-11900KF processor. I know many people advise against buying Alienware, but since it was a gift, I'm making the most of it. However, I’ve noticed that this PC isn’t outperforming my GE76 Raider Laptop with an i7-11800H in CPU-bound games like CS2, Overwatch, and Fortnite. This has been frustrating, especially since my CPU temperature constantly hovers around 88 degrees Celsius. I’m a bit confused about CPU architecture, so please correct me if I get anything wrong. I watched an old Short Circuit video on undervolting and decided to use Intel XTU for that. Initially, when I undervolted the CPU, it consistently achieved the maximum P-Core frequency of 4.8 GHz. However, I later realized that XMP wasn't enabled, so I turned it on via Alienware's "Overclocking Software," which isn't exactly user-friendly. As a result, my CPU now draws a lot more power and uses high voltages under load. I disabled CPU overclocking in Alienware's software and turned off any overclocks in the BIOS, hoping to create a clean slate. Despite these changes, my CPU is still pulling 250W under load, compared to its previous usage of just 180W. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate your help. Additionally, this is a fresh install of Windows 11 (24H2), but I’m not sure if that matters. My Benchmark Score in XTU was 5300 Marks with the original undervolts, but it has now dropped to 4500 Marks when trying the same undervolts. I wish I knew what changed.
I'm sorry, I don't have any information about your laptops or desktops. Could you clarify what you need help with?
I solved the power usage issue. On some AW motherboards, there’s an option to turn overclocking on or off. When overclocking is active but no profile is chosen, the CPU gets maximum power draw, whereas disabling it brings consumption back to normal. I turned off overclocking and noticed a drop in power use. Comparing benchmark results from CapFrameX on both laptop and desktop showed only a modest ~9% boost in Overwatch’s average frame rate. This likely reflects real-world performance rather than synthetic testing.
