Recent Windows updates have affected your ability to use the File Explorer and Start Menu. Typing in searches now doesn't work, but you can still search through the Settings menu. The mini calendar that appears when clicking time is also missing. You've already tried rebooting, using the indexer troubleshooter, and removing the latest updates except for a stubborn one. Consider checking if your system is running out of storage or if there are conflicting software settings.

This subject seems better suited to the official Microsoft forums.

Literally same thing happened to me, yesterday my PC got updated and now start menu is not working. This update "servicing stack 10.0.19041.985" cannot be uninstalled too. One more thing I have noticed is that my cursor has spinning blue circle right next to it like it is loading something, it is is spinning every other second. They definitely screwed something up and released this update. Please update if you find any solution to it. For the mean time here's how you can use search feature of start menu: right click start menu< search

Has anyone discovered a fix yet? My computer runs smoothly in about 10-15 minutes, but I can't even launch my Windows key. The start menu won't open, nothing minimizes or closes the desktop, and it keeps locking up. I can still play games, but closing them is impossible. Two of my side mouse buttons also seem to stop working. It seems these issues began after the May 11th updates. At least I installed them, but it relates to the "Servicing Stack 10.0.19041.985" you mentioned. I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to remove the installer... It's really frustrating, lol. Should we proceed with this?

I found a solution that helped: I installed the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool on a USB drive and used it to reinstall. In the advanced settings, I selected Uninstall Updates and ran both the latest feature update and the latest quality update. The feature update didn’t work, but the quality update did. After restarting, my search function was back online. The Servicing Stack remained, but the two KB updates from May 13 were missing—likely causing the problem. It seems both updates together might be responsible, or the standard uninstall method wasn’t enough for the actual issue.
