Issues with the promised internet speed for Bell Fibe.
My family recently received the 50 mbps fiber package after a door-to-door salesperson persuaded my dad to install it. Before that, we used Shaw 75 Internet with 80 mbps download and about 9 mbps upload. At that time, we were on wireless internet. Once the technician finished setting up the internet and home hub 3000, I connected to Wi-Fi and ran a speed test. My download was 30 mbps and upload was 2 mbps. Since I stream a lot, I needed more than 6 Mbps upload. We were promised 50 Mbps download and around 10 Mbps upload, but I thought it was due to the wireless connection. So I bought a 50-foot Cat 6 Ethernet cable to link the home hub modem to my PC. Another speed test showed the same results as before. I’m still puzzled about why these speeds are happening. I’d appreciate someone’s help.
You switched off the wireless option? My laptop sometimes still uses wireless even when it's plugged in.
You're looking pretty good right now, but maybe you can upgrade your service. These internet providers are really bad and might even be against the law. Fiber connections are affordable enough for them to offer, yet they should have been installed back in the day. It's disappointing you can't enjoy better service at a reasonable cost.
It’s not always clear what to say. My work doesn’t always work well on Wi-Fi. Hardwired is reliable in some cases.
i never talked about wifi, i just said if the service isn't working properly, canceling it is the best choice. you know wifi needs a strong signal to match ethernet speeds, but distance and interference matter. nowadays everyone checks services through wifi, most don’t have a computer with an ethernet port these days. most people use smartphones or tablets without an ethernet connection, and you rarely get someone to test speeds with a modem that only has wifi. today most folks rely on smart devices instead of traditional setups.
They can and they do, because you can't expect an ISP to troubleshoot speed problems if the user isn't testing wired.
you can't just assume a guaranteed outcome, right? Yeah, we should try it, but it’s not working anymore. the ISP can push a lot, I understand, but if users don’t have the necessary support and people keep pushing, things will shift. many will switch to companies that recognize not everyone has a PC with an Ethernet port, or the right cables and know how to use them. Wifi is now the main option for home users, that’s the current reality. so how does this benefit the situation? you’re not contributing, move your concerns elsewhere.
ISPs don't promise fast WiFi connections. They can't manage the signals in your home. All WiFi matters are up to you to handle. They promise Ethernet speeds only, as long as the cable meets the requirements it will function properly.
