Today at 1:49 PM I added a bookmark #1. Greetings everyone, I’m uncertain if this fits the right category. Sorry if it’s not. Recently I noticed some oddities with my PC—about a month ago it started acting strangely, even though everything was fine before. The strange part was that at random moments, the system would mimic pressing the CTRL key, making it think I was using keyboard shortcuts (like typing "P" to print instead of typing). Also, sometimes the "x" key would freeze, filling all input with "xxxxxxxx". After a long pause, I decided to upgrade and bought an SSD—specifically the SAMSUNG 870 QVO SATA 2.5" 2 Tb. I thought backing up my data on the old HDD first would let me reinstall everything cleanly. I followed the usual steps: formatted the new drive, installed Windows, and everything ran smoothly. But during setup—choosing language, region, keyboard layout, etc.—the screen went black, leaving only a dark background with the cursor moving. I tried reinstalling twice more, but the issue persisted. Eventually, I used Samsung’s Magician to clone the old HDD into the new SSD, and it worked! I was able to boot up and access all files and programs, though the CTRL glitch remained. When I attempted a Windows 10 install from the SDD, the screen still froze in the setup phase. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. As shown in the component list below, my machine is quite old: Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V Pro Loo LGA 1155, Processor - I5-3470, Cooling - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, GPU - ASUS Nvidia GeForce GT 610, RAM - 2 x Kingston KVR 4Gb 1333 Mhz, Mouse - Logitech G700s, Keyboard - Advance Pro-K2 Gamer, Monitor - Acer G236HL 23", Sound - Logitech Speakers Z170, HDD - Toshiba SATA III 6 Gb/s - 2 Tb Tower, Tower - Gamer Advance Darkside PSU - Cooler Master G500. ****UPDATE**** I also tried the opposite approach—cloning the SSD into the HDD—but it didn’t help. The black screen appears odd, didn't you notice it taking time before it reactivated? It could also be a broken keyboard—do you have an old one you could try?

Hello, The dark display remains unchanged, (I rebooted the computer after two hours). I replaced the keyboard three times but it stayed the same.

It might also stem from a hardware issue. My initial thought is the motherboard. Unless you have a backup board, you could test another PC by copying the disk there, then transfer it to your problematic machine.
