Issues with starting a laptop on a newer operating system vary based on the RAM setup.
I've been playing around with an old laptop for some fun. Yet somehow it won't start Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 when I have 4GB of RAM installed, but it does work with XP, Vista, and 7. With just 2GB it boots into all those versions. The RAM settings that function across all OSes are listed, while the configurations that worked only on older systems are noted. Could be a motherboard issue? Or maybe something with the chipset? The chipsr says they support up to 4GB, but I thought it was just the RAM. The BIOS might have caused the problem too—same issue before updates fixed the stutters. Someone mentioned possible GPU driver problems for newer systems, yet it still runs with 2.5GB.
