Hello, I’m not sure where to share this. I have a basic old Soundsystem set up with an old TV, and it works when I connect my Wii. But with a PC via HDMI or a Nintendo Switch, only the TV speakers work. Anyone know why that happens? Thanks!

Your HDMI connection is being used on both the Nintendo console and the PC, likely through the same port on the TV. If that’s the case, the problem might lie with the TV rather than the PC, since the PC is sending audio clearly to the speakers. The Wii and PC probably don’t have direct knowledge of the TV’s speaker setup. It could help checking the TV’s speaker settings or looking into how surround sound is configured there. You might want to consult a TV forum for more insight.

It functions only on the Wii, yet I attempted the Stereo and surround sound options, but it didn’t work. The main issue seems to be that the TV’s settings are quite basic despite those changes.

Consider using an older TV with an audio jack if it has one. Try connecting it to a 3.5mm jack for HDMI, while routing PC audio through the jack. If it was sold in the UK, prices were around £1; in the EU, similar options might be available. It may not improve performance, but it could work if the device treats it as a basic input and plays it directly.
