Consider another big game? Check if it's just this one or if Steam is the norm overall. There are many big free-to-play games to explore and test what might happen.
Attempted it as well. Downloading Portal 2 will require about six months. On my Windows 10 system it’ll be nearly an hour and a half.
Adjust the Steam Server Location in Settings -> Downloads to a nearby server. I experience this occasionally too. It seems like the routing might be temporarily affected.
I'm attempting this again. If it fails, I'll switch to another distribution. Already tried that too, but nothing changed. Removed and reinstalled Steam without any results.
Attempted to set up dnsmasq but found an older version installed and it wasn't active. Trying to turn it on, but nothing happens. Still working through the issue. Note: Here are dnsmasq details: May 10 10:52:55 - Systemd started a lightweight DHCP and caching DNS server. May 10 10:52:55 - dnsmasq passed syntax check. May 10 10:52:55 - Failed to create listening socket on port 53 because the address was already in use. May 10 10:52:55 - dnsmasq.service reported exit with code indicating invalid argument. May 10 10:52:55 - Systemd exited due to failure.
