Hi,
I own an EVGA gtx 1060gb SC edition, a Ryzen 5 1600 with 16GB of 2666mhz RAM (two 8GB modules). I've been using this system for three years and have never attempted overclocking before. I wanted to understand the purpose behind all the "overclocking" discussions, so I ran several benchmarks using Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
- Initially, I tried to raise my RAM speed to 2666mhz by applying XMP profiles in the BIOS. The result was a noticeable drop of 10 to 20 frames per second in AC Odyssey.
- Then I reset the RAM to its default setting and attempted to increase my CPU's clock speed from 3.2GHz to 3.6GHz (game boost mode for the R5 1600). No improvement was observed.
- Next, I used the EVGA Precision X tool and enabled "K boost" to increase my GPU speed from 1607mhz to around 1980mhz. This improved my AC Odyssey performance by about 5 FPS, but the GPU temperature rose to 72 degrees.
- When both K boost (GPU) and game boost (CPU) were active, I played World of Warships and achieved an impressive 25 FPS average—far above the usual 60+ FPS. After turning off both boost modes, my FPS remained low, around 20 to 27.
- I also tested other games like Battlefield 1, which showed the same slowdown. I attempted reinstalling GPU drivers, deleting the EVGA Precision X tool, and restarting the PC, but nothing resolved the issue.
Anyone have any tips or solutions? Thanks in advance.
TLDR: I tried overclocking, but it didn’t help much. Returning everything to default left my system very slow and caused significant FPS drops across all games.
Help needed!
