Issues with setting up Windows on a new NVMe storage device
Hi,
I’m trying to figure out something confusing. Maybe I should have stored this instead of handling it here. I’m working on a fresh build and reusing some previous components. I finished the installation and set up Windows 11 Home.
I own an Asus Dark Hero Z790 board with five M.1 slots. I placed drives in each:
1) Corsair MP700 1TB (M.1 5.0, new)
2) Sabrent RocketQ 2TB (old)
3) Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB M.2 (new)
4) Samsung 980 Pro 1TB (old)
5) Samsung 960 Pro 1TB (old)
None of these have the important files I need. The 980 and 960 had operating systems—my old system disk and a backup drive. After booting, I changed the boot order to my Kingston thumb drive.
I restarted and selected disk 0 (the Corsair one that was blank). It installed at about 78% and then reported “cannot complete Win 11 install.” Restarting again, it tried but failed. Eventually, I managed to get the system running on the 960 Pro, though every reboot required reinstalling Windows there.
I want a clean setup on the Corsair drive, with the others as data storage that can be wiped. Should I remove everything except the Corsair and try again? I’m not sure if this is the right path, but I’d appreciate your advice since I haven’t faced any installation issues before.
