Issues with server connections
Hey everyone, we're having some issues with Minecraft on the server. I'm in Japan while my friend is in Australia, and the connection isn't great—we can play GMod and Battlefield 3 together, but Skype works fine. When I join his server, I suddenly fall into darkness and can't see anything. My internet speed is about 10 Mbps (max 20 Mbps), which isn't enough for smooth gameplay. Sometimes I manage to connect, but then I lose the link after a while. I ran some tests and think it's because the world has more data to download. I was wondering if switching to a faster connection like fiber optic would help. If not, are there other solutions we can try? Both of our computers are powerful enough for Minecraft. Thanks for your help!
I believe the final adjustment is correct. Consider reducing the rendering distance before entering the world. Ask your friend to check if lowering the view-distance server parameter to 5 improves things (8 is the standard draw distance).
I adjusted the settings to the absolute minimum, but it didn’t make a difference. It seems we might be using Hamachi, though I’m not sure how it helps.
It might be useful to upgrade to fiber optic. Your current download speed may not be sufficient for your needs.
Your current speed is sufficient. Could you share your ping value? Does it account for server-related factors?
