Hey, Tearing my hair out here. I recently bought a new CPU, mobo and RAM (7900X, ASUS ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming, 32GB DDR5 6000MTs)...everything was fine until I started playing the Spider-man Remastered game, and I started having system hangs. I thought it was the extra 6 port PCI-E addin board I put in to give me some extra SATA ports - but the problem persists even with that removed. The motherboard has 4 SATA ports that are all controlled by the Asmedia 1061 controller. On the ports I have 3 SSD's and 1 spinning HDD - so am using all 4 ports on the motherboard. Basically, there will be some kind of stutter in game, which invariably ends up with the system grinding to a halt and me having to hard reset. The problem only showed up when I started playing Spider-man Remastered. For the week or so I had the new parts, I had been playing Cities Skylines without a problem...but looking back at the Event Viewer logs, the storahci and "Raidport0/Raidport1 reset" logs were present throughout. Here are the 2 errors I am getting: The first type is from "storahci" - this varies between "RaidPort0" and "RaidPort1"...If I had to guess - I would say port "0" and "1" are the parent of physical SATA ports - cause it is always port 0 or 1. "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort1, was issued." Details - System - Provider [ Name] storahci - EventID 129 [ Qualifiers] 32772 Version 0 Level 3 Task 0 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x80000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2022-12-11T02:48:32.7169435Z EventRecordID 12779 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 4 [ ThreadID] 16244 Channel System Computer ComputerName Security - EventData \Device\RaidPort1 0F001800010000000000000081000480010000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000810004800000000000000000 The second error that accompanies from "disk": This second error varies - it is not the same drive that throws a fault each time. At some point or another, every one of the 4 drives has thrown a similar error. I matched the device ID's (00000051) to each of the drives as well as getting the "harddisk0" identifiers to match them up. "The IO operation at logical block address 0x3dc76610 for Disk 0 (PDO name: \Device\00000051) was retried." - System - Provider [ Name] disk - EventID 153 [ Qualifiers] 32772 Version 0 Level 3 Task 0 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x80000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2022-12-11T02:48:33.2171853Z EventRecordID 12780 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 4 [ ThreadID] 12300 Channel System Computer ComputerName Security - EventData \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 0x3dc76610 0 \Device\00000051 0F01040004002C00000000009900048000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000428 This leads me to the conclusion that the drives are not a fault, as *all* the drives would have to be failing for this to be a problem. Here is what other trouble shooting I have done to try and resolve: Re-seated the SATA cables. I have not replaced them. All the firmwares are for the drives are up to date. BIOS is the latest stable. There is a Beta version available, but it makes no reference to anything SATA related...so I've not tried it. I have tried this https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7297...ndows.html - with it set to "Active" and "0ms" the problem still happened. I read somewhere about trying it on HIPM as that worked for someone, so I am trying that right now, but I suspect the problem will be the same. As far as I understand, the SATA ports on this motherboard do not support raid - and so that would explain why I am unable to locate a SATA mode setting like there is on other boards, where you can set it to AHCI or RAID. Windows and drivers are all up to date. Based on the reading I have done, these errors are basically the result of the disks resetting...for whatever reason...and it seems to be due to a timeout. I've had the system for about 2 weeks now. I've only played Cities Skylines and Spider-man Remastered. In that time, the computer has not needed a hard-reset to recover other than when I'm playing Spider-man...even though the errors were appearing in the Event Viewer throughout the 2 weeks. I know Cities Skylines pushes everything in the Pagefile after it's filled up the RAM, so I think it runs off the the NVME C: drive...whereas data is probably still streaming off the SATA drives where my games are stored...hence why it crashes. I don't really know what to do it now. Spider-man *could* be a unique situation of a game where it is highly susceptible to crashing when this kind of error happens - but surely the errors just shouldn't be happening at all for it to be a problem in the first place? It feels like I have 4 SATA ports on this board that I cannot use now. I don't know what I am supposed to do...beyond buying a 3rd party controller like an LSI? But christ, that feels slightly ridiculous when I paid £350 for a motherboard that should have basic working SATA ports? If anyone has any ideas...I'm all ears. Thanks.

To understand why the computer perceives an active RAID, examine the system logs and configuration files. Restarting the installation of Spider-Man remastered might resolve the issue.

Hi cmdOptEscape, it seems your new computer is having some hardware problems. The stuttering and crashes might stem from a conflict or incompatibility between your motherboard and storage devices. Updating the drivers for both your motherboard and drives could fix these issues and boost performance. You usually locate the latest drivers on the manufacturer’s site. Another option is to turn off the Asmedia 1061 controller in the BIOS and connect only the standard SATA ports on your motherboard. This may resolve controller-related problems and enhance stability. Also, verify that your CPU and other parts aren’t overheating, as high temps can hurt performance and damage components. If these steps don’t help, returning the motherboard or drives might be necessary for a replacement or refund. There could be a hardware defect here. Let me know if you need more advice!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies...bit of an update since posting. This is the question I was asking myself in the beginning - I don't use raid of any kind...and the 4 SATA ports on the board are not capable of raid...so I couldn't understand it. The only solution that makes sense is - since I only ever see "RaidPort0" and "RaidPort1" - I think this might be the (and forgive my most-definitely not correct technical terms) - the "sub controller" for 2 of the SATA ports...there are 4 ports in total, I am sure I have read they are packaged in pairs. The "raid" part in the name - maybe it's a Windows thing, maybe it's a carry-over from other BIOSes where the ports were traditionally raid-able and "sub controllers" are named "RaidPort0/1" in the firmware? Total guess work though from me. Re: Spider-man - I should really have included in my original post that although I only experienced hangs that needed a hard reset whilst playing Spider-man, the errors from storahci and disk errors were showing up while Spider-man wasn't running, while the computer was idle and/or while playing Cities Skylines. I think because Skylines loads everything into RAM and the pagefile (which is on my NVME C: drive) - it never had to access data on the SATA drives while the errors were spitting out - hence no crashes. Again, an assumption. Hey Noah, Thanks for your reply. So I have made sure all drivers were up to date. The one thing I could never really find an official download for would be a driver for ASmedia 1062 SATA controller (I was mistaken in my opening post - it's the 1062, not the 1061 - practically the same thing though I believe). Last night just before I was logging off, I was able to to find a driver from a third party website - which I downloaded and installed. There was a driver on the techpowerup forums that I was unable to install - but this other one installed fine. I was going to try it out....but...I had ordered an LSI HBA controller on eBay a couple of days ago...and that arrived unexpectedly early today. I have spent the last few days Googling the hell out of this problem - and while there are *LOTS* of people experiencing problems similar to mine...two things seem to run be a running theme: 1. Nobody actually understands why the errors happen. (and nobody has a real fix) 2. Asmedia SATA controllers are a bag of $hit As I've gotten older, I've become less inclined to want to spend hours upon hours tinkering with a problem to fix it and would rather it just work - so I've slapped the LSI controller in ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304367322982 ) and plugged all my drives up and am just going to run with it and see if it resolves. I needed another SATA controller to add more SATA ports anyway for other drives - so I was always going to use the HBA, but I had planned on just using it for extra ports...barring any problems, it will be my sole SATA port provider It's one of them problems where it's hard to replicate - it seems to happen randomly - so it's not even like you can troubleshoot constantly. So I'd rather just eat the fact that ASUS and other motherboard makers seem to be happy gipping their customers by putting crap components that are likely to cause problems? Anyway - thanks...if I have more problems I'll revisit this thread. Much love

It's great to hear you discovered a possible fix by changing the SATA controller. I'm confident the LSI part will help, and I wish you a smooth experience with your updated system.

You're checking if your Z390-E supports RAID and whether you switched SATA ports from AHCI to RAID mode in BIOS.

The manual states SATA ports don’t allow RAID support, which aligns with the inability to enable AHCI/RAID mode.
