I successfully achieved a stable 3.9Ghz overclock on my R1600 chip. I then attempted to overclock my RAM because many people believe higher frequency RAM improves Ryzen performance. I've been working on it for four days now, trying the X.M.P profile and even manually adjusting settings, but the RAM resets back to factory defaults and maintains its default speeds. The timings also fail to apply, as they operate above their intended rates. Anyone have experienced this problem? Have you found a solution? I think a BIOS update might help in the future, but I'm interested in your thoughts.
Overclocking ram can be fickle .
When you say overclock , if you've bought 2133 or 2400 & you're trying to push it past its rated speed then there is absolutely no guarantee whatsoever its going to happen.
The quality of the ram itself is going to be a major major factor as is the issue currently with single rank/dual rank discrepancies on am4 boards.
I'm running ballistix sport ddr4 2400 cas 16 1.2v at 2666 cas 12 1t which I honestly wouldn't expect any other ram to manage in all honesty.
It actually hit 2933 cas 16 2t but performance difference is just minimal at those settings & it needed a voltage increase.
Absolute fluke as it wasn't even purchased for a ryzen build.
I own 16GB of Corsair LPX 3000Mhz RAM with an ASRock AB350 Pro4 board. Attempts to raise the RAM speed beyond its default 2133Mhz using X.M.P and manual OC have failed. I also increased the voltage to what AMD claims is the maximum, which was 1.400 volts, but it didn't help. The timings remain unchanged even when I try to adjust them.
Almost all users with Ryzen components face challenges with XMP configurations for RAM. Many limit speeds to around 26XX-29XXMhz, though luckily some achieve better results. A few have reported achieving success by setting timings manually instead of using the XMP profile, but this isn't assured. BIOS updates remain necessary.
