Since the Windows update that removed files for many users, I've faced problems where my version deletes write access to the main drive for everyone at random. The first time I noticed this was when I tried moving a downloaded game from D: to C:. Steam warned me the drive needed write permissions. After checking, I saw that most groups only had read, read, and execute rights, not full write access. I restored the settings but it kept resetting after a while. This has happened three times now and is becoming increasingly frustrating.

Your account isn’t allowed access to C:\ by default, which is correct. Steam games are saved in your personal folder, typically under a user-specific path. Creating a shared folder like c:\games and setting permissions for everyone will work.

literally every group was blocked, even me. I saved Steam directly on D: and tried to create a library folder via Steam itself, but it refused access due to permissions. I also attempted manual setup, which failed (C:\Program Files (x86)\SteamApps).
