Issues with overclocking the Athlon 860k
Hello everyone, I'm just starting out with overclocking and want to improve my 860k. My motherboard is a Gigabyte FM2+ A68H. I managed to get a stable 4.3 GHz overclock with minimal voltage changes, lasting about seven hours. I'm testing benchmarks like Cinebench, but when I pushed past 4.1 GHz the score dropped compared to the stock 3.7 GHz turbo core. For the overclock, what settings should I use for the C6 core, cool and quiet? The main issue seems to be that some cores fluctuate between 4.3 and 1.6 GHz, with at least two at 1.6 during any given moment. This might explain why my performance drops after OC. Also, what is the DRAM voltage and should I focus on just that?
It seems like the CPU is limiting performance, which typically occurs when temperatures rise too high, though other factors might be involved. How are you currently setting up your overclock? Are you using AMD Overdrive or adjusting settings directly in BIOS? Raising the multiplier alone with vcore adjustments can help if needed. Always turn off turbo mode during OC attempts, as it could be the reason for throttling. I usually disable C&Q while OC'ing and then re-enable it afterward to check its impact. It often doesn't matter.
Yes, it seems the CPU is throttling, which typically occurs when temperatures rise too high, though other factors might be involved. How are you currently overclocking? Are you using AMD Overdrive or adjusting settings directly in BIOS? Increasing the multiplier alone with vcore adjustments may help as needed. Always turn off turbo mode during OC sessions; if not done, it could be contributing to the throttling. I usually disable C&Q during OC and then re-enable it afterward to check its impact. It usually doesn’t matter. Thank you! It appears my cooler wasn’t properly seated before, but now everything is working fine at 4.4 and I’m not experiencing any issues. My temperature sensor seems faulty, giving inaccurate readings, though I did observe a change.
What causes these wrong temperature readings? The idle temperature tends to be inaccurate on AMD FX processors. Load temperatures generally work well, though. You might consider using AOD and relying on thermal margin instead.
