Issues with overclocking in AMD OverDrive
Issues with overclocking in AMD OverDrive
The specifications are
Mobo: MSI A68HM-E33 V2
AMD a10 7860k Arctic Freeze Rev 7 cooler
2x 8gb DDR3 OC 1866mhz
1tb HDD
GPU: ASUS RX470 Strix Factory OC
PSU: Corsair RM650X
My concern is that whenever I attempt to overclock via AMD Overdrive, the system freezes and restarts. There’s nothing in the BIOS to manually adjust the CPU clock; only OC Genie can increase it to 4.2 (stable). I’m just looking for a bit more performance for gaming to avoid bottlenecks. If I skip OC Genie, my stock runs at 3.6 with a turbo of 3.8/4.0, and any changes in AMD Overdrive cause crashes and restarts. Thanks for any assistance.

Are you certain there are no BIOS settings that allow manual overclocking? I’m unfamiliar with MSI Mobo settings, so I’m unsure. However, every time I tried overdrive with my FX-8320, it worked fine in BIOS, but when I used OC Genie, I faced the same issues.
the only adjustment i can make is the nb ratio, all settings are fixed
It seems your motherboard is on the lower end, which might mean it doesn't support overclocking with your chip. You may need to rely on the 4.2 boost for now until you can upgrade to a better one, unless someone else has found a way around this issue.
