I understand. I tried using a VBS script I found online to get an office key, but it didn’t work either. The key from the script doesn’t match what PC Unlocker displays. I used a program called PC Unlocker to retrieve a product key, which gave me an office key that’s different from the one I found. After entering it in Word and changing the product key settings, I was able to reach the install office screen. When I customized the installation, it asked for a name and organization, which I left blank, and the process completed. However, Word and Excel still show the key as invalid and say it can’t be activated online. The second key I discovered doesn’t match any of the keys I’ve recorded either. It’s unclear what’s happening.

If what you have isn't functioning, the best option is to contact MS. Those unlikely to work with Office 2010 might consider giving up and using something else. LibreOffice is nearly fully compatible but not completely, and it's free.

There is a supposed official workaround for Office 2010 activation when standard methods fail. The link provided leads to Microsoft support information, and the contact number is listed as 866-421-7141. A recent user shared their experience with this method, describing a successful activation process after following specific steps.

I think I might be wasting my time here. It still functions, even though I’m not sure if I’ve lost anything or if it will stop working soon. I also know there are free alternatives available. But this is something that’s really bothering me.
For the update, I’ll try it later when I have more time.

If you proceed, kindly inform us about the situation. I'm curious since I currently have Office 2010 Retail and might need a fresh installation within the next six months.

I called that number and they told me the product key I provided isn’t real. Unless I use another key, that one won’t work. I don’t remember exactly how this happened—I’m not sure where I obtained it. I usually only buy genuine versions, but I still know fake products can exist. Not having the key noted in my list and no CD for it is bothering me about its origin. I have an installation folder, which suggests it was downloaded somewhere, though I’m not sure where. Generally, I prefer genuine products just to avoid future complications from fake ones. When installing Office, did they stop asking for the product key during setup?

In your situation, even if activation is difficult and you need to contact them, I think you’ll be fine as long as you’re certain the key is authentic. It took less time than I expected. The prompts asked if I wanted a link for an app, which I declined, and I was able to speak with someone quickly afterward. Like most customer support interactions, it was a language barrier—being from a foreign country made communication a bit challenging.

If MS states it is not valid, then it is not valid.

Thank you for the update. I believe my key is valid and the "retail" version; it was bought in DVD form. Have those people ever mentioned "Office 2010 can't be activated anymore" or similar? Did they clearly state it was no longer possible? It seems like a widespread belief online that activation isn't working. Good news if that's incorrect.

They never indicated it couldn't be turned on, nor could they. Until recently, my family had used a version dating back to 2000 and 2007, and it functioned perfectly without any issues. There were no difficulties activating it either.
