Issues with MiniITX causing frequent frame drops are becoming more common.
Hi everyone, I assembled for a friend a new pc, every part is brand new. Here's the list: Monitor : LG 34WN80C Case : IQUNIX ZX-1 PCIe Riser : the one who came with the case, PCIe 16x 3.0 17mm CPU : Intel i5-13400 GPU : Gigabyte RTX 4070 Eagle OC-12GD MoBo : ASUS ROG STRIX B760-I RAM : Corsair Vengeance 5600Mhz K2 CL36 2x16GB SSD : SSD 1TB Crucial P5 plus Cooler : Kraken X53 PSU : Cooler Master V850 SFX Gold OS : Windows 11 PRO Now, the problem is that he gets really crappy FPS in pretty much every game, except League of Legends. Hogwarts Legacy, with every settings on low and DLSS on Max Performance, only goes to 14-16 FPS in the char selection. We tried opening Thief, the remake, and in the menu it drops to 24 FPS with the lowest settings... We tried a normal 1080p monitor, only 2 FPS gain. We tried updating drivers, bios, ME, but nothing solved the problem. I tried looking into the bios to search for a settings to bring the PCIe slot to 3.0, but I didn't find the setting, and GPU-Z recognize the GPU with a "PCIe x16 4.0 @ x16 1.1". Since the riser is a 3.0, I think this mismatching of gen between GPU <-> Riser <-> Mobo is causing the problem. Any other idea? Should we try and buy a new riser cable?
Check the temperatures of his parts. Try forcing PCIe Gen 3 in BIOS to see if it confirms or rejects the results.
If it's interpreted as PCIe 1.1, that's definitely a problem. I'd reach out to the manufacturer of the case you purchased, assuming it's faulty, so you wouldn't need to purchase a replacement yourself. I'd also verify the temperatures of all components and confirm they're operating efficiently.
The temperatures are all within normal limits—CPU at 50°C, GPU at 60°C. I wasn’t able to locate the BIOS settings, checked every place... It seems the identifier after the @ in the riser cable setting is what determines the riser cable type. Here’s the GPU-Z screenshot you mentioned.
During the time leading up to your post, I located it in the BIOS manual. The link provided points to the ROG Strix B760 I Gaming Wi-Fi model helpdesk. The current generation and link width the GPU operates at is around 1.1 when idle. Hovering over that value increases it to approximately x16.
Attempted the rendering process; results remained identical. The bios display shows only M.2.2, not the PCIe speed.
We refreshed the bios to version 1010 right before sharing this thread. We didn’t attempt the riser unplugged or the GPU directly because the case is quite challenging to work with, and I’m assisting remotely. I think I’ll handle troubleshooting with my riser cable 4.0 once we have more time. I shared here hoping to find something that works on the software side, as I haven’t built an ITX or worked with Windows 11 before. Thanks to everyone for your support—I’ll update if the issue was the riser.
