Checking if the wired connection is weakening or if the wireless part is the issue. Swapping the existing access point with a new one and testing again should help avoid needing two routers.

I don’t believe this will work unless the second router is set to bridge/extender mode and also access point mode. When I used two routers, there was a noticeable speed drop at first. I noticed channel selection was automatically set to the same channels, causing interference. It would help to switch channel selection to manual for each device and experiment with different channels to see what performs best in your environment. For me, I chose channels 1 and 2 for the main router and 6 and 7 for the extender—these were just personal choices. If it doesn’t improve, simply replace the devices as suggested by @Electronics Wizardy. Good luck!
