I don't compete in games and this rig is already very powerful. When I installed it it was among the best available, still handling a mid-range setup well after two years. If you were aiming for top speed, it would have been outdated long ago. Even then it’s likely to be upgraded soon with new parts. Many users here say response times and smoothness jumped noticeably when moving from a 4th-gen build to a modern one, and I can see that on my 9900K based SFF—benchmarks only about a third faster, but the system feels much better overall. Still, the main page says nothing is wrong, though I think 8GB is limited and constant paging could cause serious slowdowns. You might survive by closing everything except the game, and you can turn off swap completely so you’ll know instantly if it’s too short.
I’d consider a clean Windows setup. Save drivers onto a USB drive. Install without internet and handle drivers manually. Turn off automatic driver setup at first login (even without internet). (Still offline) Remove all HP accessories and concentrate on installing chipset, GPU, and Ethernet drivers. I suggest the NV 460.89 studio driver for non-GeForce users: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverRe...7762/en-us I’ve noticed similar problems in the paste. It’s hard to recall if it worked with a 4790K—probably fine for CSGO.
