I recently purchased an ASUS TUF Gaming A15 with these specifications: 16GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 7-6800H CPU, Nvidia RTX 3050Ti GPU, and a total system temperature of 95W running Windows 11. Recently, whenever I connect the charger, I experience significant stuttering, dropping FPS, reduced wattage, and temperature fluctuations during gaming sessions. Even on battery power, the laptop functions normally. This issue occurs across all games. After consulting an ASUS onsite engineer, they performed thermal paste reapplication and a factory reset. According to YouTube tips, adjusting power plans might help, but the problem only resolves temporarily during a single gaming session and returns when I restart the next day. I suspect it’s not a hardware fault. Please assist me in resolving this.

But this doesn’t occur when using a battery? The issue with stuttering seems to stem from a machine that’s still running but struggling. There are various potential causes to consider. I remember an instance where a partially blocked fan on a GPU caused no temperature warnings, acting more like a minor obstruction. You often have to experiment until something functions properly. In laptops, the initial concern is usually overheating due to inadequate airflow. Try placing it on a pillow or a carpet that restricts vents. Edited May 27, 2023 by Bombastinator

It doesn't seem to be related to the battery. The system is functioning properly, temperatures are normal, and everything looks intact. Could be another component or software issue. You might want to check other parts before heading to college.

This might be an issue related to the dGPU itself. Many laptops don’t activate the dGPU unless they’re connected, and instead use the regular iGPU.

I've verified that the dGPU is being utilized... Around 70% of it.

On battery? Then your machine doesn’t work that way… unless it is but for some reason isn’t. This smells of windows corruption. This is one of those times I might just pull the chain. Something is messed up software wise and I don’t even have a good place to start. A refresh could be tried I guess.. they’re quick, easy, might work, and don’t do any damage. A full backup might be a good idea though.

A complete fresh setup has already been completed. Nothing was fixed. My GPU settings are configured for the ultimate mode in Armor Crate, which explains the strong performance even though switching modes hasn't made much difference.

The armory crate is a burning dumpster and has been there for a long time. It might be true. Unless there are heat or software problems, it’s probably just a hardware issue. Very rare, but it can happen. The item should still be covered under warranty.
